UNELCO reinforces commitment to safety through PEPS

UNELCO is reinforcing its commitment to workplace safety through a series of interactive workshops held at Holiday Inn Resort in Port Vila today (Thursday), with contracting partners, government agencies and training institutions.
Held annually, the Partners Engaged for Our Priority Safety (PEPS) training event is part of UNELCO’s ongoing efforts to protect its employees, contractors and communities.
“Safety, every decision matters” is the theme for this year’s event.
Nearly 100 participants representing around 30 partner companies, as well as representatives from government institutions and training organisations involved in occupational health and safety, are expected to attend this year’s event.
They will discuss workplace safety, share experiences from the field and strengthen collaboration on accident prevention.
Participants will also reflect on the importance of individual and collective decisions in preventing workplace accidents.
The discussions will focus on anticipating risks before work begins, understanding the consequences of serious incidents and identifying practical actions that can be implemented by UNELCO and its contractors to further improve safety performance across worksites.
“A special focus will also be placed on collaboration between the private sector, government agencies and educational institutions,” UNELCO stated.
“Representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Labour Department, the Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT), the National University of Vanuatu (NUV) and the Pacific Vocational Training Center have been invited to participate in the event, highlighting the importance of a collective approach to workplace health and safety in Vanuatu.
“For UNELCO, PEPS is more than a safety event. It is an opportunity to strengthen relationships with partner companies, encourage open dialogue and reaffirm a shared commitment to ensuring that everyone returns home safely at the end of the working day.”
PEPS will conclude with the signing of a Safety Commitment Charter, symbolising the common responsibility shared by all participants to promote safe behaviours and safer workplaces.
Today’s event will run from 7:30am to 12pm.
