100 vehicles seized in joint traffic operation

A joint operation involving the Public Land Transport Authority (PLTA), Police, Municipal Wardens, and other stakeholders in Port Vila yesterday resulted in the seizure of 100 vehicles.

The operation, which took place at Korman Junction, Nambatu Area, and Smet Area, targeted all types of vehicles, including public transport and government vehicles.

“This operation was scheduled for earlier this year but was postponed until yesterday. It is part of routine enforcement carried out nationwide,” said the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PLTA, Reginald Tabi.

He noted that vehicle dress codes were also checked during inspections, with formal dressing code being one of the criteria.

The PLTA and SHEFA Province compound were filled with various vehicles, including buses. Government vehicles were kept at the Prime Minister’s Office premises.

Mr. Tabi urged drivers and owners to take responsibility if they wish to operate vehicles for business.

The PLTA office will not accept vehicle owners sending friends or family members to pay fines on their behalf. Keys will only be handed over to the person who was driving at the time of the infraction or to the individual listed on the citation.

This policy ensures that the person responsible for driving, whether in a public or private vehicle, is held accountable for safety and proper vehicle operation.

Every vehicle will be kept in the compound until the required documents are provided and fines are paid. Only then will the keys be handed over.

CEO Tabi also thanked the joint operation team, including the police and municipal staff, for their valuable involvement and for ensuring the successful implementation of the operation.
