Tourism operators urged to prepare as gov’t strengthens air connectivity

By Ezra Toara.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO), Adela Aru, has called on tourism operators across the country to start preparing their businesses, saying the government’s recent investments signal a firm commitment to revitalising the sector.

Mrs. Aru said the government’s decision to invest in Twin Otter aircraft to bolster Air Vanuatu provides assurance that authorities are serious about improving domestic air connectivity, and operators must be ready to welcome visitors.

She added that tourism businesses, whether guest houses, lodges, bungalows, or activity-based services, should take steps now to prepare, as developments are already underway.

The CEO said the government is actively bringing markets closer to communities and tourism operators, creating new opportunities that businesses must be ready to seize. She noted that tourism operators need to work harder to rebuild and return stronger than before.

Aru also encouraged operators to collaborate with tourism officers in their provinces, particularly the Department of Tourism, to seek guidance and advice as they prepare their businesses. She added that the Tourism Office will begin reaching out to provide marketing training, including strategies to use social media effectively to promote local tourism businesses and create engaging content that attracts potential visitors.

She highlighted the importance of ensuring that information about tourism businesses is easily accessible, given that bookings and travel decisions can now happen at any time. Mrs. Aru said there is a positive outlook with improved domestic connectivity and encouraged stakeholders to work together, support one another, and contribute collectively to the recovery and growth of Vanuatu’s tourism industry.
