Titan FX’s Quintet of Interns: Learning useful skills for the knowledge economy

Vanuatu’s fintech leader and leading employer, Titan FX, continuously seeks out the best and brightest from the fresh ranks of Ni-Vanuatu graduates to equip them with on-the-job training in finance, compliance, IT, legal, and other advanced skills.

Five such prodigies have recently joined the firm’s headquarters in Port Vila:

The veteran of the group is Nitricha Morin, from Malekula, who started her internship in August to “broaden my knowledge of business law and obtain some hands-on experience in a legal setting within the finance industry”, as she put it, while completing her Bachelor in Law at the University of South Pacific (USP).

Among other tasks, she’s been writing risk assessment reports for the Legal team and she’s worked on account opening procedures with the Payments team.

“I’m very happy with the training and mentorship I’ve received. I have improved my legal knowledge, my research skills, and my confidence to speak in public,” Morin confided.

Next came Marika Tatalele, from Nguna Island off the north coast of Efate, who’s currently completing her Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Accounting and Economics at USP.

She applied at Titan FX after reading about another intern’s experience on social media, and started in September on the Finance team where she helps managing accounts payable, arranging payments for local and international suppliers, and other accounting and software tasks.

“My tasks appeared quite challenging at first, but with the help of my trainer and teammates I’ve improved my skills so much that I now feel much more confident,” Tatalele said.

In October came Raynick Visai, from Malekula, a recent USP graduate in the fields of economics and information systems. He joined Titan FX as a business analysis intern, working with the company’s data to extract precious insights for improving performance.

He found his one-month stint “amazing”. “I got to meet new people and gain some experience in a real work environment for the first time. Everyone has been incredibly friendly and helpful. This experience confirmed my intention to pursue a career in data analytics.”

Esther Nicholls, from Paama Island in MALAMPA, is a second-year student in Business Administration and Management at the University of New Caledonia. After joining the Finance team in October, she quickly put to use her strong foundation in data analysis and accounting, working on day-to-day account reconciliations, and specifically those involving cryptocurrencies.

“Working within this close team allowed me to develop my collaboration and communication skills. I strive to be proactive by asking questions and seeking clarifications, which I didn’t do as much as a student,” Nicholls noted.

Finally, Dominik Junior Nakou from Tanna came in in November for a two-month interlude to his Bachelor of Law at USP.

“My interest in law started at a young age, watching my family resolving disputes using legal principles. I came to know Titan FX from their various sponsorship programs in the community, and I thought it would be a good place to develop my knowledge in a professional setting,” Nakou shared.

His experience on the company’s compliance team has convinced him that he should focus his education on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) practices, an existential issue for financial services providers.
