Morgan Driving School has helped and trained more than 300 drivers to obtain their licenses since establishing in 2021.
General Manager (GM) and Founder, Sylvain Isaac, shared the journey of how what started as a simple idea to help a loved one turned into a successful business that is now expanding across the country.
“In 2021, I initially started teaching my partner how to drive. During the training, I thought, why not turn this into a driving school?” recalled Isaac.
“My partner and I had friends who also wanted to learn, and that inspired us to start training others.”
The school, which began with just one vehicle, was initially established to generate extra income to pay off a bank loan. However, the growing demand for driving lessons quickly transformed it into a full-fledged business.
“At first, I was juggling between my job as a teacher at Lycée LAB and training students in my free time,” he explained. “But soon, I realized I needed to commit fully to the business, so I resigned and became a full-time instructor.”
Despite the challenges of handling phone calls, bookings, and training sessions all at once, Isaac and his partner persevered.
“It was tough—we didn’t have an office, and I often worked until late at night. My partner, who was still employed at the time, had to manage calls during work, which eventually led to her resigning as well to focus on running the office.”
Over the years, the school has seen remarkable growth.
In its first year, Morgan Driving School trained 40 students. By 2022, the number had increased to 70, then 86 in 2023, and in 2024, 105 students successfully obtained their licenses. Since January this year, 14 more students have already gained their licences.
“Our services cater to all types of vehicles except heavy-duty ones. We started with manual cars, then expanded to automatic vehicles to meet demand. Now, we have five vehicles and a team of trained instructors,” Isaac said.
The school has also become a key player in employment creation.”We train people not just to drive but to increase their job prospects,” he said.
“Many of our graduates use their licenses to apply for jobs locally or abroad, such as through the PALM Scheme and RSE program. Our goal is to help locals find opportunities through driving.”
Morgan Driving School is now setting its sights on expansion.
“We are planning to open a branch in Santo. Training for the new instructor is underway, and once complete, we will start operations there,” Isaac revealed.
“After Santo, we aim to establish a school in Tanna Island and later expand to other islands.”
Beyond teaching driving, Morgan Driving School is looking at other ways to support its students.
“We are working on offering vehicle purchasing options for our students at affordable prices. Once they get their licenses, we can help them acquire a vehicle, even sourcing them from overseas if needed,” said the founder.
What started as a small initiative to train a single person has turned into a life-changing program for hundreds. Morgan Driving School is not just about driving—it’s about empowering individuals, creating job opportunities, and fostering economic growth in Vanuatu.
