Mamas from Port Vila and surrounding communities, who have turned flower planting into a self-employed initiative, are resuming their sales for the next three days at Independence Park, below the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The President of the organisation, Mr. Maurice Horry, confirmed the “Open Day” event will also feature hot meals and locally designed clothing
“What this means is that we encourage public servants and politicians to visit our sales and support our mamas,” he said.
“The money spent on our sales is reinvested into each household to support our communities, whether it’s for school fees or more flowers.”
The idea for the organisation originally stemmed from Mr. Horry’s tragic loss of his first-born daughter. It was established to honour her life through the stunning flowers that bloom and give the public hope for a brighter tomorrow.
One of the members shared that last year her sales helped cover 50% of the food costs, supporting her husband, the traditional breadwinner.
“My husband supports me because he sees the contributions I make, even helping with school fees,” she said.
Horry encourages girls and women with time on their hands to visit the event, saying that such visits might awaken a latent skill that comes alive through planting and nurturing beautiful flowers.
