Kwakea development still under consideration: Ratua Resort

Ratua Island Resort says the proposed five-star hotel development on Kwakea Island in TORBA Province remains under consideration, and no project has been finalised at this stage.
The resort made the clarification in response to questions from the Vanuatu Daily Post following reports of a proposed tourism development on Kwakea Island.
The Daily Post contacted Ratua Island Resort after obtaining information during the 46th Independence Day celebrations in Sola, TORBA Province, which referred to the proposed development. Ratua said it continues to explore opportunities that could enhance its guest experience and expand its tourism offerings.
“Ratua Resort continues to evolve, and we’re always looking at opportunities that could further enhance the guest experience and the resort’s offering,” the resort said.
It said there are several ideas and potential projects being considered as part of its longer-term development plans.
However, Ratua stressed that it was too early to provide specific details about the proposed Kwakea development because nothing had been finalised.
“There are a number of ideas and potential projects being considered as part of Ratua’s longer-term development, but it is still too early to comment on specific initiatives such as the proposed Kwakea development, as nothing has been finalised at this stage,” it said.
Ratua also clarified its relationship with Ramada Resort Port Vila, following previous reports linking the two properties.
“Ratua Resort and Ramada Resort Port Vila are separate properties, but both are managed by South Pacific Hospitality (SPH) Ltd,” the resort said.
Through SPH, the company said it remains committed to investing in and developing high-quality tourism experiences in Vanuatu.
The proposed development on Kwakea Island has attracted interest because of the island’s potential as a high-end tourism destination in TORBA Province.
Kwakea is a remote island in the Banks Islands, approximately three kilometres long and one kilometre wide, with a small permanent population.
While Ratua has not confirmed a final development plan, the resort’s response indicates that tourism investment opportunities in the area remain under consideration.
As such, the company is yet to provide a confirmed timeline, investment value, development scope or details of potential employment and economic benefits for TORBA communities.
