Business students rally behind classmate representing Vanuatu at Palau Mini Games

By Vourie Molivakoro.

In a heart-warming gesture of unity and support, students from the Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT) have come together to support one of their own—19-year-old Pamela Akisa Mesa, a first-year Business Administration and Finance student—who will be representing Vanuatu in swimming at the Palau Mini Games.

Pamela’s classmates raised VT8,000 voluntarily to contribute toward her travel needs, a gesture that left many touched by the solidarity and care shown among the student body.

Class teacher Jill Bule commended the students for their selfless support.

“They are like a family. Even though they are not going, their hearts go with her,” she said, reflecting on the strong bonds formed in the classroom.

Class captain Kairy Iautin shared the same sentiment, proudly stating, “Win or lose, Pamela is already our champion. We’ll keep her in our prayers throughout her journey.”

Coming from a single-parent household, Pamela expressed how much the support means to her.

“Growing up with a single mum is not easy, but being a national athlete and representing your country is an achievement,” she said.

“To all the girls out there—don’t look down on yourselves. Always hold your heads high, focus on your education and the sport you love, and manage your time wisely.”

Pamela also took the opportunity to encourage young girls to steer away from negative influences and embrace positive paths in life.

“Focus on the good and avoid habits that can lead to a wasted life,” she said.

She called on parents, especially those raising daughters, to stand by their children and support them in both their educational and sporting journeys.

“I’m so grateful to all those who have supported me—my friends, classmates, and the school administration. Your contributions and encouragement mean the world to me,” she said with a smile.

Pamela will carry the spirit of her VIT classmates and the hopes of many young Ni-Vanuatu girls when she dives into competition in Palau.
