Belair Airways resumes flights to Tongoa

By Charles Hakwa.

Belair Airways will resume flights to Tongoa today.

The airline, along with others, had suspended services to the airport after the Civil Aviation Authority of Vanuatu (CAAV) declared it unsafe due to livestock repeatedly entering the runway and creating a hazard to aircraft.

Unity Airlines had also stopped charter flights to the island.

The resumption restores air access for the people of Tongoa, whose only transport option had been by coastal shipping or banana boats to Emua Wharf, followed by a drive to Port Vila.

Under the 2026 schedule, flights to Tongoa will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
