ANZ donates VT7.5M to Vanuatu earthquake relief

ANZ has donated VT7.5 million to the Vanuatu Red Cross Society (VRCS) to support the country’s recovery from the December earthquake, which caused severe damage in Port Vila and surrounding communities.

ANZ Vanuatu Country Head Terence Low said the devastation to homes, businesses, and livelihoods had been enormous.

“We have been part of the community in Vanuatu for over 50 years, and we remain committed to our customers and the community here,” he said. “We want to ensure that all those affected have access to the support and resources they need to get back on their feet.”

Mr. Low praised the swift response from donor partners.

“I am deeply moved by the resilience of our people and the generosity of all donors. The outpouring of support—whether through donations of time, money, food, or shelter—has been truly remarkable,” he added.

ANZ will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with local authorities to support the health and well-being of its staff and customers.

Secretary General (SG) of VRCS Dickson Tevi stated that ANZ’s support would enable them to continue their crucial work assisting with the earthquake response, supporting local communities, and providing necessary relief.

“This is the first time ANZ has recognised the work of the Vanuatu Red Cross in such a significant way,” he said. “The Vanuatu Red Cross Society is a statutory body established by the Vanuatu Government in 1992 through its own Act of Parliament. It is also a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

“Red Cross has been an auxiliary to public authorities, including the Government, complementing their efforts in the humanitarian field. In any disaster, it is the role of the Red Cross to respond.

“Red Cross itself does not receive funding from the Vanuatu Government through the national budget. We rely solely on donors. This kind of donation enables us to provide relief supplies and reach communities in need.”

ANZ is also offering financial relief measures for those affected by the earthquake.

ANZ’s branch in Port Vila is temporarily closed, and they are operating from their secondary site at Colardeau. If you require help with your banking, you may send a Bank Mail through the ANZ Internet Banking channel or call +678 26355 at any time. Toll charges may apply.
