Vanuatu Beverage Ltd has collected 10.5 liters of blood during a blood drive organized at its premises over the weekend, contributing to the country’s ongoing need for voluntary blood donations.
A total of 79 employees, including the company’s three Managing Directors, participated in the initiative. However, only 24 individuals were eligible and able to donate blood, reflecting the reality that not everyone qualifies to become a blood donor.
According to the company, the outcome highlights the importance of those who are eligible to donate, as blood is a critical resource that cannot be manufactured and must come from volunteer donors.
The 10.5 liters of blood collected — representing around 24 donations — could help save up to 72 lives, since a single blood donation can often assist more than one patient in need.
Blood remains difficult to access because it must be stored under strict conditions and used within a limited period to ensure it remains safe and effective for patients.
One of the company’s Managing Directors, Teiva Durand, praised staff members who participated in the initiative and encouraged more organizations to take similar steps.
“Not everyone is eligible to donate blood, so those who can should actively seek opportunities to do it. Blood is difficult to replace, difficult to keep fresh, and always needed. We will most likely repeat this initiative every year,” Durand said.
The initiative highlights the important role businesses can play in supporting the country’s health services by encouraging voluntary blood donation and raising awareness about the ongoing need for blood supplies.
