The Civil Aviation Authority of Vanuatu (CAAV) has announced the reopening of Malolo Airport on Maewo, allowing air services to resume following the completion of rehabilitation and upgrade works on the runway.
Malolo Airport was temporarily closed to allow for improvements to its runway infrastructure to meet national civil aviation safety requirements. With the works now complete, the airport is ready to receive airlines and passengers.
The rehabilitation project was carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD) in partnership with approved contractor Pierre Brunet, bringing the facility into line with operational and safety requirements for civil aviation.
The project was completed under the leadership of the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Utilities (MIPU), Xavier Emmanuel Harry, as part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen transport infrastructure and support safe, reliable air travel across the country.
The CAAV acknowledged the contribution of all parties involved in the upgrade works and confirmed that Malolo Airport is now fully operational, serving both scheduled and charter flights. The Authority also reiterated its commitment to upholding aviation safety standards and regulatory compliance nationwide.
