Port Vila residents using the Seaside and Nambatu roads daily can expect pothole and spot repairs, steel reinforced concrete pavement, rehabilitation, and resealing to be completed within a nine-month timeframe once work begins.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed yesterday that the contract, valued at over VT600 million, has been awarded to Downer EDI Works Vanuatu Ltd., as recommended by the Central Tender Board (CTB) on 30 October 2025. The approval follows the Vanuatu Government’s commitment to improving road conditions in these areas, with the contract approved by the Council of Ministers (COM).
“This is a momentous day for the residents and businesses of Seaside and Nambatu,” Prime Minister (PM) Jotham Napat said. “The rehabilitation of these roads is a crucial step towards improving the lives of our citizens and supporting the economic activity of our communities. We are grateful to the Australian Government for their support through the Vanuatu-Australia Infrastructure for Development (VAI4D) Program, which is making this project possible.”
The scope of works under the contract includes the construction of a 138-metre steel reinforced concrete pavement at Mangoes Resort, pothole and spot repairs on Seaside and Nambatu area roads, rehabilitation of 1,160 metres of roads as shown on the map (light blue lines), and resealing of 5,670 metres of roads also indicated on the map.
Downer EDI Works Vanuatu Ltd., a reputable road construction company, will undertake the rehabilitation works, which are expected to be completed within nine months (or 270 days).
The Vanuatu Government looks forward to the successful completion of this project, which will improve the condition of the roads and raise the quality of life for residents and businesses in the area.
“This contract represents just Package 1 of our road rehabilitation efforts, with further packages planned to upgrade other main road networks,” added PM Napat. “We are committed to transforming our infrastructure, and we expect to see major improvements to the Port Vila Central Business District (CBD) in 2026 as part of our ongoing efforts to improve the city’s roads and services.”
The Nambatu Roads will be completed once Public Works have finished Freshwota and Erakor.
