As the dust settles over Port Vila and greenery returns to vacant plots where tall buildings once stood following the devastating earthquake on December 17 that claimed 14 lives and injured 265, the President of Port Vila Mamas flower sellers, Mr. Maurice Horry, announced that his organisation is resuming their three-day flower sales at Independence Park starting this morning.
Mr. Horry, a former public servant, encourages the public to visit during lunch or after work to browse the flowers, with hot food and soft drinks also available under the open roof opposite the MSG Secretariat.
“I invite our political leaders to take a break from their busy schedules, bring their partners, and enjoy the natural colours of the land by purchasing a pot or two for their loved ones,” said Horry.
He reminded everyone of the important role played by the mamas who work tirelessly to plant and care for not only flowers but also fruit tree seedlings and trees, supporting the Government’s efforts to combat the effects of climate change.
Horry also urged individuals who have secured new land plots to consider buying fruit tree seedlings such as lemon, navele, namambe, mango, orange, and more to mark their land boundaries.
“Plant your seedlings now so that when you move into your new homes, the trees will be blooming for your families to enjoy,” he added.
Meanwhile, a member of the Association expressed condolences to their President, saying, “On behalf of the mamas, we offer our deepest sympathy for the recent loss of your younger brother. You are in our daily prayers for comfort and healing.”
The flower sales will run until Friday.
