In response to passenger demand, Air Vanuatu will increase the number of scheduled charter flights operated by its DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft (“Twin Otters”).
This was relayed by the Liquidators of Air Vanuatu, represented by Morgan Kelly, Partner in Strategy & Transactions at Ernst and Young (EY), in a media statement issued on September 5, 2024.
There were also multiple takeoffs and landings of the DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft yesterday, which indicate that it is undergoing test flights in preparation to join the other Twin Otters currently operating domestic flights.
However, the Liquidators also revealed that there will be no scheduled charter flights operated by its ATR 72-600 (ATR) aircraft next week due to necessary repairs.
“The repairs of the ATR aircraft are required to ensure the safety and satisfaction of Air Vanuatu’s passengers and to prepare the aircraft for the full commencement of the airline’s domestic operations,” the Liquidators stated.
“We plan to release further information about the availability of ATR scheduled charter flights once the repairs are completed, and the aircraft is ready to resume service.”
They also mentioned that a date for the full commencement of Air Vanuatu’s domestic operations will be announced soon, while the resumption of international services is yet to be determined.
Notably, the ATR had only resumed domestic flights on August 26 after being grounded for 108 days, servicing Tanna and Santo with scheduled flights. However, after just 10 days of operation, it has been grounded once again for necessary repairs.
