The National Expo Committee (NEC), led by Commissioner General Mr. Joe Pakoa Lui and Deputy Commissioner General Mr. Howard Aru, has officially announced Vanuatu’s participation in the World Expo 2025, set to take place from April 13 to October 13, 2025, in Osaka, Japan.

A World Expo, or World’s Fair, is a major international event that highlights global achievements, brings together people and innovations, and focuses on a universal theme. It offers immersive activities, aims to address global challenges, lasts three to six months, and is non-commercial in nature.

Vanuatu has unveiled the branding for its pavilion, centered on the theme “Resilient Hearts, Empowered Lives.” This theme was chosen to reflect the spirit of resilience and empowerment within Vanuatu’s communities, aligning with the Expo’s broader theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”

The branding, revealed to government and private sector stakeholders, underscores Vanuatu’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, while celebrating the nation’s shared values and aspirations on the global stage.

Speaking at the launch, the General Manager of the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Aru, expressed his pride in the nation’s participation in the prestigious event, recalling Vanuatu’s history with World Expos. He noted the significant progress the country has made since first attending the Expo in Hanover, Germany, in 1995, where products like Tanna Coffee were among the few items showcased.

“We are at a momentous occasion in Vanuatu’s participation in World Expos,” Mr. Aru said. “Vanuatu’s presence at this global event is a testament to our growth, resilience, and the vibrancy of our local products.”

The Vanuatu pavilion will consist of three key components:

Tourism: Highlighting Vanuatu’s diverse attractions, the tourism section will showcase the nation’s natural beauty and unique travel experiences, positioning the country as a top destination for both local and international visitors.

Investment: Focused on promoting Vanuatu as an attractive investment destination, this section will emphasize the country’s favorable business environment, sustainable practices, and opportunities for international investors looking to engage with local communities.

Vanuatu-Made Products: Celebrating the craftsmanship and creativity of Vanuatu’s artisans, this area will feature locally crafted goods, promoting the country’s unique products and supporting the growth of local businesses.

Despite facing challenges with government funding, the NEC is working tirelessly with the support of the Vanuatu Aid for Trade Unit (VAMU), which is providing financial backing to ensure the country’s participation continues smoothly through December 2024. The government remains committed to building stronger diplomatic relations with Japan, with the Expo serving as a key platform for fostering long-term friendships and partnerships.

“The collaboration of the NEC membership, VCCI, and professionals from Naoia Consulting and Wonderkarma has been invaluable in preparing for this event,” Mr. Aru added, thanking those involved in the planning process. “We are committed to showcasing Vanuatu in the best possible light and ensuring our participation makes a meaningful impact.”

The government continues to seek additional support to ensure full participation throughout the Expo, which will run for six months in 2025.
