Vanuatu entrepreneurs urged to harness global partnerships

By Antoine Malsungai.

After 45 years of independence, Vanuatu’s entrepreneurial landscape is entering a new era of transformation.

Local entrepreneur Adams Lopez believes this new chapter will be defined not by isolation, but by collaboration, innovation, and strategic global partnerships.

Lopez stresses that working alongside Chinese entrepreneurs does not indicate preference for one nationality over another. Instead, it reflects a universal truth: progress thrives where cooperation exists. The engagement between local and Chinese business leaders demonstrates that Vanuatu is ready to step confidently onto the global stage.

Describing this collaboration as a milestone in Vanuatu’s economic development, Lopez says it has the potential to accelerate growth, create jobs, and strengthen local industries. He notes that international cooperation, paired with local leadership, can help build a resilient economy for future generations.

Vanuatu has signed numerous agreements with China across trade, education, agriculture, tourism, technology, and infrastructure. While these agreements offer untapped opportunities, Lopez warns that many remain underutilised.

“These agreements were designed to help our people,” he says. “If we do not actively use them, they remain pieces of paper instead of tools for progress.”

Lopez urges entrepreneurs to approach these partnerships with vision and purpose. He encourages them to engage in cross-cultural learning, explore joint ventures to access new markets, seek mentorship and technical support, participate in training programs under bilateral agreements, and build networks beyond Vanuatu’s shores. Each step brings the nation closer to sustainable economic independence.

A central message from Lopez is that success requires collective perseverance. While agreements and partnerships provide a foundation, it is the determination of Vanuatu’s entrepreneurs—their talent, creativity, and resilience—that will shape the nation’s economic future. He calls for innovation over hesitation, collaboration over fragmentation, and long-term strategy over short-term thinking.

Lopez urges both established and emerging entrepreneurs to view this era as an opportunity not only for individual success but for national progress. “The tools are already in our hands,” he says. “What remains is to unite our efforts, dream boldly, and take action. When we do that, we will not only transform our businesses—we will transform our nation.”

With strategic partnerships, supportive policies, and a growing community of inspired entrepreneurs, Vanuatu has the foundations to build a future defined by growth, opportunity, and shared achievement.

Lopez’s message serves as a reminder that progress is built through collaboration, perseverance, and belief in the country’s potential.
