Tove Foods to launch 2kg chicken mince product on December 12

Tove Foods, Vanuatu’s first regional poultry distributor, will launch its frozen 2kg chicken mince product on December 12, 2024.

A Tove Foods representative said the new product is designed to provide an affordable and nutritious protein option, making it ideal for larger households or those looking to stock up. It is set to revolutionise mealtime for families across the nation.

“With rising meat prices becoming a daily concern for many, Tove Foods is stepping in to offer a solution,” the representative said.

“The chicken mince will be available in convenient 2kg packets and larger 6kg cartons, allowing families to choose the amount that best fits their needs.”

The chicken mince is the result of a collaborative effort, produced by Turks Poultry in New Zealand and packed under the Tove Foods brand. This initiative arose from discussions among Tove Eats Ltd, Neat Meat NZ, and Turks Poultry, focused on addressing the rising meat costs in Vanuatu.

Tove Eats Ltd Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Julian Ligo, said chicken meat is the most consumed protein in Vanuatu, but the high prices have made it increasingly difficult for families to afford.

“Our agreements with packers in New Zealand will allow us to offer this nutritious option at a price that families can manage. Now that we have managed to pack the chicken mince into 2kg and freeze it, all of Vanuatu will have access to something affordable,” the CEO said.

Tove Foods recently ran a competition to name their new meat shop, generating nationwide interest and thousands of suggestions that created a buzz among the management team. In a spirit of inclusivity, Tove Foods decided that the entire country would be announced as the winner.

“To celebrate this community engagement, we will launch the chicken mince as a special product for all competitors in the naming contest. This initiative reflects the importance of community involvement and shows Tove Foods’ commitment to serving the people of Vanuatu,” Ligo added.

According to Turks Poultry NZ, the mince is made from premium chicken breast. Since chicken mince is a lean source of protein that is not only delicious but also healthier than red meat, it has lower fat and calorie content. It’s a nutritious addition to any meal, promoting better eating habits for families.

The shipment of chicken mince is arriving on December 12 and will be available nationwide, distributed through trusted retailers in Port Vila, Luganville, Malekula, and Tanna. It will also be available to other islands through the Tanna Ferry and the Nilwo family Landing Craft, set to arrive this December.

“By offering chicken mince, we are addressing the economic challenges faced by families while promoting healthier eating habits. We believe that everyone deserves access to quality nutrition without compromising on taste or affordability,” Mr. Ligo further stated.

Tove Foods plans to expand availability to the Solomon Islands in January 2025, with hopes of reaching more Pacific Islands in the future.
