Successful cruise ship visit marks tourism revival for Epi

Guests aboard Le Jacques Cartier thoroughly enjoyed their experience in Vanuatu, basking in the beach bar vibes, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and sipping on refreshing drinks and champagne.

On Sunday, February 9, the luxury cruise ship docked at Lamen Bay, Epi Island, with fewer than 100 passengers onboard, marking the return of cruise tourism to the island. This visit is seen as a noteworthy step towards revitalising tourism in the region.

The visit was hailed as a resounding success by Trek Vanuatu, a Vanuatu cruise tour operator that managed the ground logistics. “We are thrilled to announce that the cruise ship visit to Lamen Bay was a success,” said a spokesperson from Trek Vanuatu.

“It’s been some time since we’ve had a cruise ship call at Epi, and we’re pleased to report that the logistics were managed seamlessly, and the community was absolutely delighted by the visit.”

The Government, through the Department of Tourism (DoT), with assistance from the local Area Administrator and Mrs. Isabelle Donald, ensured a smooth and successful welcome for the ship’s guests, providing a positive guest experience and facilitating tours on the island.

The community at Epi Island has conveyed joy and thankfulness for the cruise ship’s visit, acknowledging the economic and tourism opportunities these visits bring to local communities.

The ship has continued its journey to North Ambrym and Santo as part of its itinerary.

The DoT encourages all visitors and local stakeholders to continue supporting sustainable tourism initiatives and contributing to the ongoing development of Vanuatu’s tourism sector.
