Single Mother of 10 Seeks Support from Dept. of Industry

Seeking support from the Ministry of Trade and Commerce (MOTC) marks an important step for Winnie Daniel, a widowed mother who has built her baking business in Bladinier despite numerous challenges.

The Tongoa-born mother was featured on the Daily Post’s ‘Kava and Kajap’ show with host Julia Charley, where she explained the efforts required for a single mother of ten children to make ends meet.

Following her video interview, the Bladinier baker is now looking for financial support from the Vanuatu government through the Ministry of Trade and Commerce and the Department of Industry (DOI). During her visit to the DOI this month, she met with Officer Tony Tamata, who informed her that processing her application would take approximately two to three weeks.

Despite the department’s current focus on the Vanuatu Made initiative this week, Mrs. Daniel expressed her gratitude, stating, “This is the first time I will receive help from the government.” She hopes to receive assistance in reconstructing her oven, improving her workspace, and acquiring machinery that will enable her to meet growing demand.

“I can’t wait for the DOI to support me,” she said. Once her forms are vetted, Mrs. Daniel will be contacted to outline her specific needs and goals. A team will then assess her requirements, ensuring that the support she receives is tailored to help her succeed.

Daniel’s journey illustrates the vital role of community and government collaboration in empowering small business owners.
