The Millennium Cave in Santo, one of Vanuatu’s most stunning natural attractions, is now featured on a new photo wall at Bauerfield International Airport.
The ‘Lukim Yu Wall’, launched yesterday, is a joint project between the Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO) and Airports Vanuatu Limited (AVL), created to encourage travellers to share their Vanuatu experiences online.
At the launch, VTO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adela Aru said the VTO and AVL had been working on the initiative since last year, and were pleased to see it come to life in 2025.
She explained that the two organisations already collaborate through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which has included branding of the domestic and international check-in counters at the airport.
“It’s a collaboration to showcase the beauty of Vanuatu and its tourism offerings to all visitors, both international and domestic,” Mrs. Aru said.
The new wall sits in the departure area and is designed as a social media photo spot to help promote Vanuatu through user-generated content.
“This wall is part of our social activity, to capture guest experiences through images and social posting,” the VTO CEO explained. “Most times, we see our friends and families at this very spot — whether they are going overseas for a long time, or are international visitors returning home. This is the departure port of the Vila International Airport.
“This is why we chose this location for the ‘Lukim Yu’ brand wall. It is where people say goodbye before their families and loved ones depart Vanuatu.”
Mrs. Aru said the wall will be refreshed each year to feature different locations across the country. This year’s theme is Millennium Cave, to represent Santo’s tourism potential.
She noted that digital branding and visitor feedback are becoming important tools in tourism marketing. “This initiative is part of the social journey visitors take, and it allows us to capture their feedback and experiences,” she said.
Visitors are encouraged to use hashtags #LukimYu and #VanuatuMoments when posting photos. “Vanuatu needs more visitors to post and share their experiences,” she said. “This wall is designed to help achieve that.”
