Santo’s first female kava exporter achieves HACCP certification

With support from the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER) Plus, Tahun Kava Exports Ltd, the first female-owned kava exporter in Santo, based in Palms Estate, has achieved the internationally recognised Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification.

The certification was issued by Bureau Veritas, one of the largest certifying bodies in the world, headquartered in France with offices in Melbourne, Australia.

Tahun Kava Exports Ltd has worked extensively to upgrade its facilities, document its procedures, train its staff, and undergo two external audits. Ultimately, the company successfully demonstrated compliance with the HACCP standard, receiving the certification in early November.

The HACCP certification is internationally recognised by major markets, including the USA and Europe. It is a key requirement for commercial buyers who place high-volume orders. As this certification is issued by a third-party certifying body like Bureau Veritas, it assures buyers of a safe and high-quality supply. This represents a significant advantage for internationally certified businesses.

Tahun Kava Exports Ltd participated in the Santo Kava Festival and serves as a role model for other local exporters seeking to access formal regulated markets.
