PM Napat calls for collective action to build a resilient and inclusive Vanuatu

During his keynote address at the Yumi Stanap Vanuatu conference yesterday, Prime Minister (PM) Jotham Napat reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving governance and driving economic development.

PM Napat said the government has the strength, capacity, and clear processes in place to run the country effectively and address pressing challenges. Equal cooperation across all sectors of society, he added, is key to building national unity and resilience.

“Our government is working toward a future that is both resilient and inclusive. That includes access to essential services like mental health care, medical insurance, and quality healthcare,” he said. “We are reviewing our healthcare systems to make sure they are well-equipped and fair for all.”

He acknowledged the important roles of both public and private sectors in advancing development and preparing for environmental risks. He urged collective action to address climate change, sea level rise, and extreme weather, which he said continue to affect island nations like Vanuatu.

“We are seeing the impacts of climate change firsthand. This is not only an environmental issue, but also an economic and generational one,” said the PM. “We must invest in sustainable practices to secure our future.”

PM Napat also spoke on the need for reform in legislation and policy, particularly in public administration, education, environmental protection, and economic innovation. He said government institutions must be equipped with the right tools and funding to deliver results.

On the education sector, the PM acknowledged challenges and the need to boost technical skills and job opportunities. “Our people are the backbone of this nation. We must build a system that lifts them through education, training, and employment,” he said.

He recognised the efforts of government departments and partners in improving national systems. “As head of government, I am impressed by the commitment shown across sectors,” he said.

PM Napat shared a vision where technology, science, and innovation fuel growth, and where leadership is grounded in fairness, transparency, and sustainability.

“We must build systems that earn trust and invite everyone to take part,” he said. “The government will continue working closely with the private sector and communities to ensure everyone is heard and involved.”

He closed his remarks by urging citizens and stakeholders to stay focused on a shared vision for a stronger Vanuatu.

“Together, we can rise above these challenges. The time to act is now,” he said.
