New Veterinary service opens in Nambatu

Port Vila has welcomed a new state-of-the-art veterinary hospital with the opening of Nambatu Vet.

Located on the road next to L’Houstalet restaurant, this facility provides a comprehensive range of veterinary services to cater to the needs of pets in Port Vila and beyond.

Owner and veterinary surgeon Dr Christina Shaw highlights the hospital’s modern setup: “We’ve established Nambatu Vet to international standards, equipping it with digital x-ray, blood testing machines, ultrasound, a dental machine, and an autoclave for sterilising surgical instruments.”

Dr Shaw explained that the clinic is designed to provide everything from routine health checks, vaccinations, and parasite control to advanced surgical and inpatient care for pets in need.

With over 25 years of experience in treating cats, dogs, and horses, Dr Shaw is dedicated to supporting animal health and welfare. She is joined by experienced veterinary nurse Chrissy Howell, who also offers grooming services such as clipping and bathing.

The Nambatu Vet is closely linked with the Vanuatu Environmental Science Society (VESS), a wildlife conservation charity founded by Dr Shaw a decade ago. In support of this mission, VT300 from every consultation fee will be donated to VESS to aid wildlife conservation in Vanuatu.

“One of the motivations for establishing Nambatu Vet was to create a sustainable funding source for VESS, enabling us to continue our work with dugongs, turtles, and other wildlife,” Dr. Shaw said. “By bringing your pet to Nambatu Vet, you’re also giving back to the nature and animals of Vanuatu.”
