MP Lange urges gov’t to maintain North Pentecost roads

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Pentecost, Marthypen Lange, has urged the government to take action and maintain roads in the northern part of the island.

Mr Lange stressed concerns over the worsening road conditions, which have forced locals to spend money on truck repairs and clear alternative routes.

The MP highlighted that residents of north Pentecost have been using manual labor to fill potholes along the main road, particularly from Lotayola to Laone, which serves as the key anchorage for the region.

“I appeal to the government to upgrade the tarseal road of Loltong to another 100 meters, to tarseal the road of Laone and Aligu. I also ask the government to maintain the airstrip of Sara to enable the aircraft to land during heavy rainy season,” he said.

The Daily Post was told that on Saturday, residents of north Pentecost will again use manpower to fill potholes from Sara Airport to Lini Memorial College. According to MP Lange, the community had taken matters into their own hands after waiting years for PENAMA Public Works to repair the roads.

The poor road conditions have also impacted education, with the Principal of Gamal Maua, Fredson Lini, pointing out that children often arrive late to school during heavy rainfall due to the difficult traveling conditions.
