Justice Ministry’s Capacity Development Coordinator earns MBA with JICA scholarship

A committed staff member of the Ministry of Justice and Community Services (MoJCS), Ann Sharon Pakoa, has successfully completed the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan.

The MoJCS confirmed that its Capacity Development Coordinator, Ms Pakoa, received a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) scholarship under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) Global Leaders Programme to pursue advanced studies in Japan for two years. Kwansei Gakuin University is recognised as one of the top private universities in the greater Kansai region.

During her time at Kwansei Gakuin, Pakoa completed a one-week internship with the Pacific Islands Centre and a six-month internship with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific; these internships were part of her program. Her studies emphasised innovative business practices and cross-cultural management, broadening her academic horizons and enriching her understanding of robust business dynamics.

Reflecting on her experience, Pakoa shared, “I am incredibly grateful to Vanuatu JICA and the Vanuatu Government for the opportunity to study at Kwansei Gakuin University. The knowledge and experiences I’ve gained there will be invaluable as I move forward in my career. I look forward to applying what I’ve learned to make a positive impact in the Vanuatu public service sector.”

Pakoa’s journey in Japan has not only equipped her with advanced business skills but has also fostered a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and collaboration. Her achievements reflect her dedication and passion for excellence.

“We congratulate Ms Pakoa on this major accomplishment and wish her continued success in her future endeavours,” the Ministry conveyed.

Ms Pakoa serves as a permanent senior officer in the MoJCS. She hails from Tongoa Island, located in SHEFA Province. Her background and experiences contribute to her role in shaping policies and initiatives that support justice and service delivery.
