Canoe Race Reality Show Launched

The Canoe Race’ TV reality show, launched on November 21, 2024, is purposely aimed at showcasing and inspiring entrepreneurs in the country.

The Canoe Race is co-production show by Vanuatu Laboratory (V-Lab) and Vanuatu Broadcasting Television Corporation (VBTC) with funding from Australian Aid.

According to the V-Lab website, the Name “The Canoe Race” come from the journeys that ancestors made while sailing their canoes to discover new territories. This adventures came with great dangers and risks.

Similarly, today, a new generation of people is willing to take risks to undertake perilous journeys that will take them to their final destinations.

V-Lab President, Marc-Antoine Morel, shared that the idea to create the show was envisioned about 4-years ago.

“It was a long journey but it proves that we should never give up on our ideas and dreams,” he said.

“This TV reality show will showcase and inspire, to have fun and to tell positive stories.”

The first season of the show is expected to be broadcasted in February 2025 and it will be composed of 6 episodes of 52 minutes each in 6-weeks.

Three judges have been picked for the show – George (Business Manager), Serah (Business Owner & Coach) and Bikeni (Business Owner & Engineer).

During these episodes, six selected participants will undertake a series of business related challenges and compete against each other to win the race and the first prize.

VBTC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Francis Herman was proud of this new achievement and extended his appreciation to V-Lab for giving birth to the idea of the first TV Reality show in Vanuatu.

“Canoe Race will be a great influence in Vanuatu and perhaps one day it can be replicated to other regional countries,” he said.

CEO Herman conveyed it will be a chance to view and support our local entrepreneurs and their visions.

Australian High Commissioner Max Willis remarked it will give young entrepreneurs a platform to develop their ideas and receive support to make their dreams into realities.

“The Australian and Vanuatu Government will need to build the private sector for business development,” he admitted

“The Canoe Race will provide opportunities for Vanuatu and will maybe become an annual show.”

Main sponsors include the Reserve Bank of Vanuatu (RBV), Vodafone, New Zealand High Commission, Colorite Graphics Printers and other supportive partners.
