Businesses to learn benefits of certification

Only six companies in Vanuatu currently hold certification to standards such as ISO 9001, compared with more than 120 in Fiji, with local businesses set to learn more about the benefits of certification at an event this week.

The introductory event is being held by the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) this Wednesday, August 26, from 8:30am to 12pm at the Vanuatu Christian Council (VCC) facility in Freshwota.

All local businesses and companies have been invited to attend, although seats are limited.

Certification can give businesses recognition by demonstrating that their internal systems are documented and audited, and that they provide consistent, quality services and products.

It can also encourage higher levels of compliance with applicable Acts and regulations and give organisations a higher score when bidding for overseas tenders. There is also potential for rebates on insurance premiums due to lower risk profiles.

One of the certified organisations is the Vanuatu Maritime Safety Authority (VMSA), the first and only certified organisation in the public sector.

Private-sector ISO-certified companies, including Vodafone Vanuatu, will present on their journey towards certification and the benefits they have gained.
