Public restricted from walking on road from Asco Motors to town

People are not allowed to walk on the road from Asco Motors to the Prouds Duty Free Shop in town, and up to the Child Care Preschool at Independence Park.

This road segment, which was closed to the public after the earthquake, is now open following an order gazetted yesterday.

The order applies to people traveling by vehicle on this road and prohibits anyone not in a vehicle from walking on the route.

The decision was made by the National Recovery Committee (NRC) based on the Disaster Recovery and Resilience Act No. 17 of 2024.

Chairlady of the NRC and Director General (DG) of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Cherol Ala, said opening up the road is part of the gradual process of reopening the town.

She said once the demolition of La Case d’Andrea E Luciano and Chantilly’s on the Bay is completed, the route from there to Pikinini Bar to town will also be opened.

Meanwhile, the Central Business District (CBD) remains closed to the public.
