The famous local juice bar in town providing fresh, organic, and healthy fruit drinks—Pikinini Bar—will reopen today after two months of lockdown following the destructive earthquake on December 17, 2024.
Milroy Cainton, the owner of the bar, is excited about the reopening today and said the reopening of the bar, the Waterfall Kava Bar, and the road reopening from Moorings to Fung Kuei demonstrates how Ni-Vanuatu people are resilient after a natural disaster.
Mr. Cainton said Pikinini Bar has invested millions in local farmers around the country, buying watermelon, pineapple, bananas, lemons, and so forth, for its renowned local juices. With the opening, farmers will have a place to sell their goods.
“By investing millions of vatu into purchasing fresh produce from local farmers, Pikinini Bar is not only developing its juice products but also helping to strengthen the local economy,” Cainton said.
He said Pikinini Bar is a concept designed to enable parents who indulge in kava and go out every evening to bring their children to the Waterfall Kava Bar. While parents savour their kava and tusker, the children can delight in wholesome and fresh organic tropical Vanuatu fruits.
The government’s approval to reopen the Kumul Highway Street from Moorings to Fung Kuei is a huge step forward, especially for the local community and businesses like Pikinini Bar. With the road now open, the public will have easier access to enjoy not only the freshly made juices but also the beautiful environment around the area.
Mr. Cainton said it’s wonderful to see the government and businesses working together to restore the area, making it more vibrant and accessible to both locals and visitors.
The reopening followed the demolition of two buildings that were damaged during the earthquake—La Casa D’Andrea e Luciano and Chantillys on the Bay.
The Pikinini Bar owner is creating a ripple effect of positivity in the community. By providing jobs not only for his own staff but also for those at the Waterfall Kava Bar and the tenants, Mr. Cainton is contributing to both employment and economic recovery. It’s a great example of how one business can uplift an entire community, from the farmers supplying fresh produce to the local workers finding stable employment.
Pikinini Bar is known for its smoothies, pawpaw, banana, apple, coconut juice, carrot, mint, lime, nutritious fruit drinks, and ice cream.
